For loading your fly rods, you can place up to 4 fully strung - up rods, each up to 10 ft long, in the four individual plastic - lined aluminum rod tubes. The side - placed reels will help reduce wear on the rod - stripping guides and eyelets. The reel box is great for storing your reels. The top 2 slots fit most 12 - wt. reels, and the bottom 2 fit most 10 - wt. reels. You can also put the common fighting butts of single - handed rods and up to 2 spey rods in the reel box. Once you've loaded your rods and reels, use the included Yakima SKS locks to secure the rods inside the carrier and lock the carrier to the roof rack. When it comes to maintenance, after each use, especially if it's been in wet conditions, dry the carrier thoroughly to prevent rust. Check the mounting hardware regularly to ensure it's tight.
