Product Detail

The expander, a plastic part, sits on the screw thread inside each pole section. For standard poles, the large (18mm) expander is for the upper joint, while the small (16mm) one is for the lower joint. In ultralite poles, the small (16mm) expander goes in the upper joint and the XS (14mm) in the lower joint. There are two types: the old 'Classic' and the new 'Super Lock System'. The old - style expanders were used in poles made up to around mid - 2003 and are still in some budget poles. They're usually red and have four short (2mm) plastic prongs on one end in the larger two sizes. The new type expanders are currently black (18mm large) and blue (16mm small). Ultralite poles use blue (16mm small) expanders in the upper joint and green (14mm XS) in the lower joint. These two types aren't interchangeable, so check your pole type before ordering spares. Price is per single item.

Using these Leki split dowels is straightforward. Just identify the correct size and type for your poles - whether they're standard or ultralite. Make sure to match the size to the right joint (upper or lower). Before ordering a replacement, take a close look at your current expander to determine if it's the old 'Classic' or new 'Super Lock System' type. When installing the new expander, gently place it on the screw thread inside the pole section. Remember, the old and new types can't be mixed. To keep your poles in good shape, regularly check the expanders for any signs of wear or damage. If you notice any issues, replace the expander promptly. And always store your poles in a dry place to prevent the plastic expanders from getting brittle.
